It’s getting old by T.V. scifi standards, but I want to watch the whole series again it was soooo good. The Blueray set of the entire series is out and is getting affordable (in other words I found an excuse to buy it).
The new-ish Battlestar Galactica is a far cry from Loren Green’s day when he played the grandfather-like Admiral of a fleet of space ships running from the evil Cylon robots. But there’s “more better” in this series than just improved special effects. This is a serious adult drama, engaging even for those who normally don’t watch scifi. It’s about relationships, loyalty, religion, politics, and just about every other important human experience you can think of, including and most definitely sexual obsession and its ambiguous connection to love. The acting is great, the story is epic, and it’s the sort of entertainment that can lead to long conversations about what it all means and what so-and-so is going to do next. There are no black and white one-dimensional characters. Some of the most evil are the most interesting and sometimes evoke the most sympathy. And icing on the cake for me, it makes psychologically real the bizarre twist that artificial intelligence has become more religious than humans.
If you like special effects they are plentiful and spectacular, but that’s not the point. Don’t miss the rest of it, and see it if you haven’t.
